Our Beloved mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt, wife, life partner and dear friend, departed Our Lives on the morning of February 17th, 2021, after battling health issues for a significant period of time. Many of us were unaware of the true extent of her health concerns, simply because being who She was, Our Rosa’s cares and concerns always extended beyond Herself first. It was Her Way……She took care of People......Our Rosa was a fighter...and she fought like no one We’ve ever seen up to and until the time that Her Will became too Strong for Her failing body.
She fought hard, and she fought not only for Herself....She put up a fight for Us All and as she ventures to reunite with the energies of Our Ancestors......and with Our An Eternal Always, We gather Here to Celebrate The Life that preceded that Reunion. And as we mourn so deeply Her departure, we can All find Hope in the remembrance of Her Smile, Her Laughter, Her Beauty, Her Light, Her Love, Her Caring Heart. and we will be Overwhelmed with The Joy of having been
Fortunate enough to have Our Lives touched by Our Angel.......Our Queen Our Rosa.
She was born on January 13th, 1968 in Hollandale, Mississippi. The Eldest of 5 and the only female sibling, Rosa grew up on the Westside of Chicago, Illinois where she attended Blessed Sacrament Grade School, Providence St. Mel’s High School, and ultimately graduated from Josephinum Academy of the Sacred Heart. Later in Life She pursued college as well, majoring in one of Her true passions, Interior Design. In a recorded interview for Her college courses at Madison Technical College, she was asked what 5 things in her life she was most passionate about? Her first passion, to quote Her words,“…what’s most important to Me is My Family. I really Love my Family…”..Yes, she absolutely does….She married Lamont Smith Sr in June of 1987, shortly after the birth of their firstborn son, Lamont Jr. The union didn’t last, and after divorcing, Rosa later found Love again with Timothy. She gave birth to two additional sons, Julius and Noble, before relocating from Chicago to a small city where her best friend Elaine had relocated, called Madison, Wisconsin. As Love would have it, Rosa re-married on Valentine's Day 2021 to the Love of Her Life, Mary Thomas, who remained by Rosas side, steadfast and with the most natural Love and Care. Our Rosa was a Hero….a nurse and caregiver by profession….and throughout her life she enjoined, aided, counseled, supported, healed and loved a countless number of people, by blood relation and otherwise, who Loved Her as Well. The Gift of Love that she shared with the world is being witnessed here today, as we all gather together to celebrate Her Life The Gift she shared with All of Us.
Rosa leaves behind her loving mother, Bessie Starlin-Williams (AJ); three amazing sons: Lamont Jr., Julius Bryce, and Noble Ali; A Wonderful Life Partner, Mary “Fats” Thomas; Four adored grandchildren: Cherish Nicole, Zyanna, Nova Rose, and Noble Charles. Also in mourning are her beloved brothers: Michael (Reginda), Tyree (Olga), Lonnell (Lakeisha), and Jerry (Lynquisha). She leaves a special, One and Only Aunt, Gloria (James Sr). Her One Uncle, Iza Whitfield, and Her Maternal Grandmother, Pecola Dorsey, both passed away prior to Her Ascent. Rosa also leaves several close cousins: Connie, Latrice, Tanika, Rosalind, James Jr (Nikki), Shaun(Kitronia). She loved Her 11 nieces and 9 nephews like each one was Her own, and although not related by blood, Rosa leaves to mourn several long time and dear friends who were very much like Sisters to Her: Towonner, Cherri, Elaine, Vanessa, Michelle, Kim, Tamika, Ton, LaCrystal, Arkeyia, Verdina, Erin, Bernida, Wendy, Janet, Dawn and Stephanie It’s impossible to list the entire host of friends and family who have Loved Our Beloved. Forgive Us if We Failed in Our Duty to recognize by name every single person who knew and loved Rosa.
